The aim of the course

This course is intended to pass the candidate pilot all the necessary theoretical knowledge and skills required to operate the ATR42/72 to the standards required by PART-FCL.

The course is intended for:
  • Commanders for ATR42/72 type rating
  • Copilots for a ATR42/72 type rating
  • Copilots for an initial type rating on ATR42/72

The Type Rating course can be performed on either an ATR42 or ATR72 simulator, however for the first 150hours of line operations the applicant will only operate on the variant on which he/she did the type rating course. Operation of the other variant can only be commenced after completing the familiarization or differences course as applicable.

Pre entry requirements

In order to commence the ATR42/72 Type Rating course, the candidate pilot must fulfil the following requirements:

  • Commanders
    • ATPL License
    • 1.500 hours experience on multi-pilot aeroplanes
    • 300 hours experience as commander on multi-pilot aeroplanes
  • Copilots
    • CPL License with multi-engine Instrument Rating
    • Having a type rating on a multi-pilot aeroplane
  • Copilots for the first type rating on a multi-pilot aeroplane
    • CPL License with multi-engine Instrument Rating
    • Hold a certificate of satisfactory completion of multi-crew cooperation course(MCC)
    • Have passed the ATPL theoretical knowledge exams as per FCL. 515 ATPL
    • Minimum 70hrs of Pilot in Command on Aeroplanes

Structure and time scale of the course

Theoretical Knowledge Instruction

Aircraft systems self study aprox.: 80 hours

Aircraft Systems Training and exam: 5 days

Mass & Balance: 4 hours

PBN: 2 hours

Flight Planning and Performance: 4 hours

Low Visibility Operations Course: 1 day

Procedures training (CPT) Part 1 – cockpit mockup: 12 hours

Procedures training (CPT) Part 2 – mockup or FFT trainer: 12 hours

Synthetic Flight Training

Full Flight Simulator Training (FFS): 40 hours

RProficiency Check(App.9): 4 hours

Training carried out in the Aeroplane: 1 day
